Eyes in the Sky: The GPS System

On Saturday, October 29, 2022, Toby Terranova, gave a talk on “Eyes in the Sky: The GPS System” which is about the Air Force’s development of the satellite based Global Positioning System (GPS). The GPS is a U.S.-owned utility that provides users with positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. This system consists of three segments: the space segment, the control segment, and the user segment. The U.S. Space Force now develops, maintains, and operates the space and control segments. This presentation takes a deeper look behind the scenes.

Stanley Grogan and the Black B-29

On Saturday, September 24th, Art Snyder, Korean War Veteran and Chapter 195 member, remembers the life of Stanley Grogan and the missions they flew together. Art piloted a black B-29 while Stanley was navigating. They flew clandestinely into North Korea to drop leaflets enticing enemy pilots to defect to South Korea with their MIG-15’s. The daring paid off!

New NJ Election Districts / My Service as an Apache Helicopter Pilot

On Saturday, Sep 24th, Assemblyman Brian Bergen spoke on the new NJ Election Districts and his service as an Apache helicopter pilot.

He is a combat veteran who served with distinction for eight years in the U.S. Army after graduating from West Point. During his military service, he was an officer, company commander and Apache helicopter pilot – assignments that earned him a Bronze Star and the Combat Action Badge for his actions in Iraq.

2022 Teacher of the Year Awards

May 21, 2022 – Presented to: Mark DiDonato & Mark Meola

On Saturday, May 21st, at 1:00 PM in the Florham Park Diner, Florham Park, NJ, Chapter 195 presented their Teacher of the Year Award to two deserving educators, Mark DiDonato & Mark Meola.

Mark DiDonato (center) is a 6-8 grade STEM teacher in the Jefferson Township Middle School, Oak Ridge, N.J. He has been involved in various activities that connect with aerospace-related STEM.

Mark Meola (center), Sparta High School, has been a STEM teacher for 23 years and has written nine STEM course curriculums. He has developed an engineering program and a Robotics Club that has won multiple competitions.

South East Asia, Vietnam – from a mission perspective, basis of operation, technology then vs today

On Saturday, March 26th, please join us at 2:00 PM for a virtual meeting via Zoom where Bill Fosina will present a talk on “South East Asia, Vietnam – from a mission perspective, basis of operation, technology then vs today.” Bill is a Vietnam Air Force Veteran who served within the Air Defense and Tactical Air Commands at Okinawa and other SE Asia locations maintaining Fighter Automatic Flight Control Systems. In this presentation he recounts his work on stability augmentation systems for an F-4 Phantom II. Within the AFA, he is considered an Airman for Life as the Shooting Star Chapter 195 President, past NJ State, and past NE Region Presidents.
